got to do some work on the 50 sat. pulled out all the old wires, trouble was when we took the windsheild out most of the top on the pas. side came out with the rubber. mice had made a nest up on the top ledge had not seen it before. ^%$ mice looks like a lot more work to be done. do have another cab so may go that route. hope the rest of you have better luck as you go..mike j

I had a mouse nest in the header panel of my 46. I was lucky that I only had to replace the panel and give the cab a really good cleaning. Could have been a real disaster though.

Those little green tree air fresheners cover the mouse pee smell very well...

That panel up there must be a well known spot in mouse world. I had a mouse condo up there too. Humid/hot weather made the inside of the cab almost unbearable.

I know what you mean by mouseville, the mice had a [censored] party in the header of my 46 1/2 ton and it was enough to gag a magot :mad: . The header panel started to rust through, so I pulled it off and the whole top end was full of stuffing crap and mouse [censored] . I had to use a whole spray can of air freshner just to work on the mess. I pulled out the wiper motors and cleaned them with mineral spirts and sand blasted the header panel outside and what a stink came from that. I then use zero rust prep step on the overhead of the cab along with a wire brush and water hose to clean up the mess and after it dried up I used prep step again and again after that dried up I used zero rust black on the cab overhead. The truck almost smells like a new truck now and it only took me two days. The seat and the gas tank was another mouse [censored] problem that I had to do the same thing on, so now all is better and this ain't no more mouse house. :rolleyes:

Just a quick word of caution: Mouse and other critter feces can be a source for a number of bacterial and viral diseases, so take care in cleaning up. Wear a respirator to avoid inhaling any airborne dust. Try to sweep up the big parts (?!!?) and avoid vacuuming them or blowing them around the shop. Ideally, you can treat the area with a bleach solution (1 part bleach in 9 parts water) for 10 minutes to kill any microbes. This will rust bare metal, but you know it ain't dangerous/biohazardous any more.

Yes, I used Spray nine and wore a mask.I saturated the area with it and continued work the next day.

This is a fairly common mouse rust problem. If it is not too terrible you can cut that section out and replace it with the same section cut from a donor cab. There's a trucker in Arizon who sells this service, just put an add in the swap meet.

decided to use the other 50 cab that i have looks like to much work for right now. need to get this one done and on the way to texas. will use it for a donner cap for the next project. got it of the other frame and in the barn some minor rust but not bad. so the project is on the way front fenders done.

if you have stored vehicles put fleecee sheets (the ones from they use in clothes dryer) in them all over, mice hate them. i used to use them in my camper.they are cheap and you allways have a fresh smelling camper,truck,

Out here in the desert we call 'em "pack rats." You wouldn't believe the SIZE of their nests when they've been there awhile!

Mothballs in a plastic bowl are also a good mouse repellant. The best way to get rid of the little buggers is to get a couple of good cats...
