I agree with the "Horse" on this. Can you pull it and somehow get it on a lathe to check the balance.

The problem seems to have got progressively worse since then.

U-Joints can be very tricky and I too have messed up 1 or 2 over the years.

I fixed the oil leak in the Suburban. Last fall I put a 235 balancer on it. Worked fine but the pulley was larger and turned my water pump and alternator faster. Also it started leaking oil from the front after I changed it.

I cleaned up a 248 balancer and put a speedy sleeve on it. I changed it out today and found out that ol' boy didn't tighten the bolts on the timing gear cover. No wonder it was leaking oil.

All back together now with tight bolts and 248 balancer.

I can relate to that Cletis. Yesterday I was wiping down all the shiny parts on the engine and noticed a loose valve cover bolt. I tightened it then noticed the next two on that side were also loose. Sure enough the three bolts on the other side were also loose. I somehow neglected to tighten them when I originally put those covers on back in 2008 when the engine was new. Amazing that there were no leaks. However it has only 1900 miles on it.

http://www.skf.com/us/products/seal...ear-sleeves/skf-speedi-sleeve/index.html

Post your engine make/size and maybe someone will post a part number for the appropriate Speedi-Sleeve?

Also sold as Harmonic Balancer Repair Sleeve by other manufactures, such as National.

Similar repair sleeves are also commonly used on axles where axle seals have worn grooves axles.

- Pulled the front clip off of the '47 (with help from my wife and 14 year old son) and started removing the accessories to move them onto the '51 "transplant" engine.
- Greased the steering box with corn head grease (so easy to get to with the clip off)
- Cleaned up the distributor and replaced the vacuum advance
- Painted the t'stat housing, water pump, and damper to match the replacement engine.
- Cleaned the fuel pump
- Pulled the manifold assembly and finally got the heat flap freed up.

A busy few days and evenings, but a lot of good greasy fun, or as my family says: "Dad's threaded fastener therapy sessions"!

I'm sure she'll be wearing her sun screen & sun glasses while "monkeying" around down south & will be massaged into shape secret before returning home later this year.

If it's on my Photobucket page then yes that's mine. BUT it's not a suburban. It's a 1ton panel that was sent to a coach shop & was made into a school bus for the rural school districts. Mine was a bus for St Mary's Cornwin School & Church somewhere in NW Kansas I believe. At one time you could read School Bus above the windshield & you can still barely read the bus number on the drivers door....joe

Put the 67 up on Jack stands to take a look at how to remove the exhaust from the ram horns to get ready to pull the motor. Couldn't get to the three bolts so I started at the exhaust manifold figuring I could just lift it up after I get the ram horns detached from the heads and get the bolts that way. So I got the horns off the passenger side without breaking a bolt thankfully. Next on the to do list is the driver side.

That's for another day.

Well.... I found out my 30 had water in the gas tank so I had to drain it. I took the carburetor off and cleaned it up. In the process I lost that little steel ball. I clipped the end off of one of my wife's large straight pins and used it. It worked good for a little while but then, by the time I made it back to put the truck away it started back firing. I fond out that gas makes that plastic on those pins soft. I guess I'll have to get a carburetor kit now.

I went up to truckernix's place. Fred adjusted the valves for me, showed me how to do it. I got to hold the light. Left my gas cap at the gas station half hour from home. I grabbed one off the '67, fits.

Needless to say, i don't think my wife appreciates my intimacy level obtained with Dolly. Too bad it took all day pounding her with a hammer (yes there was a fender in between!)

I gained a new appreciation for body men/women!

Spent yesterday AM modifying the seat brackets on the '48 Burb. When I bought it the configuration was like a California Low Rider from the '80s. I'm 6'2" and could not see over the dash. Seat was mounted flat to the floor. So I raised it 3 1/4 inches. Been driving it that way for a while but got tired of bumping my head on the door frame every time I got in. So yesterday I pulled the seat and chopped the bracket down to 2 1/4. Finally sits just right and no more headaches. While messing around I installed a '53 original 6 volt horn behind the grill. Not wired yet but I'll get to it. Happy motoring!

My SM420 was hard to shift, gears would grind. I pulled the trans, disassembled and found the PO/Hack mechanic had installed the wrong scynro in the third to fourth position. First picture is what I found. Second picture is of the correct Made in the USA part. She will now shift like new.

Washing, polishing and waxing for this Saturday's show. Normally I don't keep it inside but with all the work done to make her look pretty I'm keeping her in my Daughter's shop around the corner from my house until early Saturday morning.

Finally got my wiper motor installed and the arms installed. All I need now are the arms for the wipers. Back ordered. I'm really impressed with how easy the wiper motor went in. I got it from Jim Carter and everything was in there to install the motor and hook it to my wiper arms. Larry
