I am looking for a factory look but with 12 volts. Keeping the generator but converted it to 12 volts. No add on accessories other than turn signals. Also wanting a 12 volt regulator that looks like a 6 volt. Thanks for any help. I looked at there sites before I posted but didn't want to overlook a company. I thought about making my own but probably wouldn't be cheaper. Maybe someone (for each company/source) who has bought a set will post their experiences doing the installation?

I knew somethings would probably be different as they don't list a harness for my application. The main differences are; most of the '48 fuses are omitted (no more head light fuses) The fuel sending unit wire is too short. No courtesy light wire, or steering column horn wire Other then that it looks and works great for me. It is $500 as opposed to $750 & $950 I was quoted from some of the popular "wire harness" vendors here. _________________________ | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,383 Ex Hall Monitor | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,383 | I used a YNZ harness on my '38. Pretty simple. The wires were all marked with tags & written instructions as well as pictorial were provided where necessary.

I do like the look and the durability of the cloth wire I do. But a stock harness for 150.00 seems high to me. I must be getting old.

Black hockey tape? Is that a cold resistant version of black electrical tape? Sorry I have watched Hockey, but at a distance. Big guys with razors on their feet and bad tempers, reminds me to keep my distance. A black zip tie on the last turn of the tape will secure it from unwinding.

So a complete truck harness at $150 is pretty good IMO. The bid that shocked me was a custom cloth harness made back east for my '48 at $1100. I knew I would not be happy seeing plastic wiring where cloth wrapped once was so the additional $350 was not a big deal to me. I believe your 50 Chevy would use the same one. The harness doesn't care if it is 6 or 12 volts. The generator, voltage regulator and coil on mine are all 12 volts and the coil has an internal resistor. All the metal tags markings are are stamped so it would take a pretty good eye to see that the system is not 6 volts. The harness was expensive, but was easy to install. If you scroll back through the album you will see pictures of the generator, starter, coil and distributor. Here is a picture of my installation. wiring harness Mike | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,470 Bond Villain | Bond Villain Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,470 | Wow -- That's a beautiful job, Mike -- Can't wait to see it finished. Do we have that truck in the Gallery?

That is a well done restoration! Do you know the part number for the coil? I want it to look stock but be safe and reliable. Thanks for ever ones time, it really makes a difference when making a big decision. Dustin | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 289 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2007 Posts: 289 | Dustin As best I can recall it was a standard 12 volt resistor coil I think I got from JC and painted it black. John the truck has been finished for a a little over a year now but only has about 400 miles on it. It's just too nice to use the way it was meant to be used. You can see the restoration process and finished truck at 52GMC or on the Photobucket link. It is currently listed under trucks for sale on your website. I have decided that I enjoy the restoration process and using my trucks as they were intended more than creating a "trailer queen" and showing them at car shows. So I have decide to sell this truck and move on to my next project which is a 1950 Chevy 1/2 ton that I use in my beekeeping operation. I have a write-up that I have been meaning to send to you to get the truck in the gallery but just haven't gotten around to it. I cannot tell how much the contributors to this site aided in its restoration. Mike | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 | Don't get me wrong. I love the look of the original harness. I do. The extra 350 dollars just stops me cold. And it is true, under the cloth, is modern plastic coating. So it is about the "look".

A beautiful truck that as you said is too nice to drive, it should be in a museum setting. Hopefully it will find a good home and a buyer soon. | | |
