Question concerns the data plate, which appears to be mounted on the passenger side cowl area. I can only see the VIN stamped at the bottom right (5KD12xxxx) and a '58' stamped in the middle. I know the main codes but not the 58. ?????
thanks, George | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 | The number 58 is stamped in the middle of the plate.........at least thats all I can see. The 5KD12xxxx is in the very bottom right corner. After looking closer, the 58 may be only part of what was once there? Maybe the GVW? Could that be 5800 lbs GVW for this 3/4 ton model? I am considering a new blank tag to mount on the passenger side upper cowl that has a space for model and gvw-lbs. What model name should be stamped in the space for Model on a new/blank tag from Chevys from the 40's? thanks, George

I know its the passenger side cowl, but have only see two and one was in the middle the other at the bottom, both vertical. How about more pics and info?

Passenger side cowl, mounted vertically. All I have see used the funny Chevy "clutch head" screws to hold them on. Hope this helps. Thanks, george | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 | thanks again, I've now see two in that same position! Can one find two clutch head screws locally? | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 87 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 87 | WE have to have a state police inspection here in Arkansas. Not sure how Florida handles builds. But can get in some hot water here if u fiddle with the vin tag I wouldn't mess with it if it were me. Its ur project and u know best. The alternative would be they may end up titling it as a ranger
Theres a build story on the HAMb where a guy didn't title his project right and it was stolen. When they recovered it he lost out as they titling was illegal.
Really not trying to rain on ur parade sounds like a cool project. Just trying to help

So............my truck is already titled as a 1940 Chev, and there are no inspections at all in fl(unless you are applying for a title for a new build)not even an annual safety inspection. I am very mindful to put the tag back where it came from, but I did get a shiny new one and yes, I am keeping the old one too that only still shows the stamped VIN as the printed stuff is long gone.
