Bought a new lock and key from the vendors, installed it but I can't get it to lock or unlock the door. Any ideas. Would they originally lock the mechanism with the key or did you have to shove the interior handle forward before getting out and slam the door? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | I can't say for sure about the '49, but on the '51-'55 the door will not latch if you lock it from the inside first. There are two separate locking mechanisms. The inside one locks the latching apparatus and the key one locks the button on the outside handle. They are not made to be used together. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | The turn down handles should lock and unlock with the key, but they do need to be adjusted properly to work.
