Hey, found a cheap electric water temp gauge with sensor that I'm going to use in my truck. it has a 1/8" NPT sensor. I guess its way too small, but what size should be used on my 216 engine? So i can buy an adapter.

Way too small for what? Adapt it (if necessary) to wherever you are going to mount it. The thread size has no bearing on operation. As long as the "probe" reaches water it will send a signal. I'm sure you will get advice as to what others did on their 216's shortly.

On the driverside of the engine, there is a threaded opening where my old temp sensor was installed, i think its 5/8". But i am not sure. The new sensor would be 1/8" so thats to small too fit in that opening.

I want to be sure about the size so i buy the right adapter. I'd like to use the same opening as usual.

5/8-11 5/8-18 to 1/8 pipe

I could not find one so I had to make one out of a 3/8pipe to 1/8 pipe brass bushing

I Just ran a die nut on the adapter and cut the straight threads

Allright, I hope i can make it work. so it is 5/8 inches then. What doest "11" stand for?

The main thing is that the sender resistance matches the gauge. I dought if that one will work with a factory gauge.

I can't find one on eBay.. I don't like amazon.


I wrote that i found a gauge with sender, only problem is the senders connection size, so the resistance is no problem.

Yeah so, from Amazon i got this, as usual:

darn shipping is like 3 times more than the adapter itself.

I might be faster and cheaper to make one. That is if you can come across a bushing and a die nut "over there".

It would also be possible to use a short 5/8-18 bolt, and drill and tap the bolt head for a 1/8" NPT thread. Use a copper washer from a brake caliper flex line fitting as a gasket between the bottom of the bolt and the sensing bulb seat in the cylinder head.
