I was climbing the tallest fir on my property looking to the west for rapid transit. Looks like a cloud of dust on the horizon near PoCo. Not sure if it's John Henry or a steam driver. Repairing the rusted cab corners which means the box comes off, the running boards come off and the gas tank comes out. Oh ya, the seat has to come out to get to the tank. Still hope to be back on the road this year. | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,972 Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator | Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,972 | John, how are the inner and outer cowls. Take a look and see if it's bubbling up inside the cab where the fender line is. If you need to fix that too, I can give you a hand, I had to do that on mine.

Last October I parked the truck in it"s storgage area to replace the steel brake lines. When I jacked up the front of the truck I saw about 6-8 drops of antifreeze on the frame member under the rad, I started to get mad and then thought it was better to find it then instead of at the side of the road in the middle of summer. I took the rad to a shop in Port Moody and it was fixed in a week.( It had about 5-6 pin holes in it and the lower rad outlet needed to be fixed.) I had replaced the brake flex lines about 4 years ago. When removing the old lines I found two Very weak spots that were out of sight.

This one is already taking too long, want to be back on the road. | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 707 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 707 | I've been working my Stovebolt a bit. Right now there's half of a load of scrap metal in the box. We'll finish loading it Monday, then take the load to the recyclers and use the money to buy a buncha new bolts for a project: A 1996 Western Star truck-tractor is getting a rear suspension transplant.
Apparently, its original Neway air-ride is obsolete - and parts are no longer available - so the truck will be going back to work soon with an Airliner suspension. Epic (my '51 3800) has been running parts, et c., for the project. A big change, for me, from the same-o. This wrench-turning is hard work, sometimes, but I'll like looking at the finished product, I think. 1951 3800 Be the change you want to see. -hotshoe

A few weeks back I test drove it down the road swerving and braking hard as if it were insured and I lived in Vancouver and dodging imaginary jay walkers...the neighbours still look at weird. Good thing though as the brake lining came away from the steel part of the shoe and was binding in the drum. Dismantled them all and they all were separating like the glue was letting go. Had the shoes relined and am stopping again. It's the charging system now.....Did I mention I was almost finished my 52? Hope to meet some of you sometime. | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 305 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 305 | SuperT10, I've looked in my Stovebolt dictionary, can't find "Finished". Glad you're close though. | | | | Joined: Oct 2014 Posts: 52 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2014 Posts: 52 | Hey all. Picked up the 52 3100 last fall and have been slowly readying it for inspection. Hope to have it on the road and ready for the Mill Lake show this year in Abbotsford. Hope to see a few fellow bolters around and am happy to see BC has a few members in the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley.
