on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 26 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 26 | There I was faced with a flange gasket leak on my 235 and the thoughts of a broken stud because the nuts haven't been removed for over 30 years. Over the course of the last 2 months I've soaked the nuts with PB blaster and finally got the nerve to put a socket to it. I didn't want to get carried away so I used a 3/8 ratchet. The rear nut came off no problem, but the front was locked-up. Ok heat, PB, socket, no go. Heat, wax, cool down, socket, no go. Three days of this sequence/combination I heated that nut red put an ice cube on the stud and YES that nut submitted. Today was a good day and the moral of this story is patience is a virtue and every problem has a solution. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Congratulations

Most guys just get on them till they break off. Usually you heat them cherry red & as soon as they cool to not glowing turn them till they come loose. Then let it cool & spray it good with the blaster & screw it off. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
