Can Steering Wheels be refinished? If so what kind of paint. I am painting the interior of my truck a cream white color-was thinks about painting my green steering wheel white or black.

RHuddle56,

Yes, steering wheels can be refinished/painted (and in 1954 they were painted a gloss or semi-gloss black). As long as you use the correct primer, any urethane or epoxy finish coat/color would hold up well.

I have seen '54 Deluxe cabs w/ steering wheels painted to match the interior (cream-colored was an option). My steering wheel came out of a GMC Deluxe cab and was green. I filled the cracks w/ JB Weld, sanded it smooth and shot it w/ the same primer/paint I used on the rest of the interior.

Paint the wheel whatever color you like... then just tell everyone you got it from a Deluxe model. grin
