Most likely you have channel/grooved retainers? No screws were used. If you are going to screw them in - the choice of size is whatever works and looks right to you. If someone posts a reply who used screws in the channel/grooved retainers, please post links to photos. | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | I used these to reattach a section of channel on my 50 ...#8 x 1/2 inch | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | windlace - If someone posts a reply who used screws in the channel/grooved retainers, please post links to photos. ...pic... ...pic... ...pic... | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Yes - if it works, go with it.

All I have is a series of screw holes around the door openings in the cab.
Thanks,

Exposed screws ? Yes, see the first paragraph of the 1947 Truck Shop Manual. Tim's first post had a good diagram that shows the differences between the 47/48 through 49/54 windlace retainers.

The holes for mounting the windlace channel on the 47 through early 49 are threaded. It's my understanding the late 49 through 54 windlace channels are welded in place.
It's possible to make your own windlace channels that resemble the 47 thru early 49; however, that could be quite a project.
I was able to find windlace channels for my 47 in the "Truck Parts Wanted" forum. They are out there and some are in pretty good shape too! | | |
