Getting ready to install my new windless channel. My question is, can I use screws for attachment and what size / type?
Thanks.

windlace - door opening weatherstrip

Do you have the channel retainers (grooved retainers) or the screw-in retainers? Most likely you have channel/grooved retainers? No screws were used. If you are going to screw them in - the choice of size is whatever works and looks right to you.

If someone posts a reply who used screws in the channel/grooved retainers, please post links to photos.

Does anyone have a source for the flat retainers that install with screws?

All I have is a series of screw holes around the door openings in the cab.

Thanks,

These are listed for 48. Don't know if they will work on your 47?

That is a misrepresentation of what they are selling. Those are c-channel retainers for mid '49 through '55 first series.

Classic Parts has the windlace channel guides almost properly dated - 1949-1955st:

Right Side door opening

Yes, see the first paragraph of the 1947 Truck Shop Manual.

Tim's first post had a good diagram that shows the differences between the 47/48 through 49/54 windlace retainers.

jacksun,

The holes for mounting the windlace channel on the 47 through early 49 are threaded. It's my understanding the late 49 through 54 windlace channels are welded in place.

It's possible to make your own windlace channels that resemble the 47 thru early 49; however, that could be quite a project.

I was able to find windlace channels for my 47 in the "Truck Parts Wanted" forum. They are out there and some are in pretty good shape too!
