For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 160 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 160 | I am trying to update the rear brakes on my torque tube axle from the '50 hucks to the '51-'53 bendix. I found a '53 complete axle for sale - can I just swap the backing plates, etc between the two? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | No, you will need to change the whole axle housing.

For example the "innards", torque tube, etc?, or is it just where the plates mount to the housing? My plan would be to use the best parts from both as much as possible, without mix-matching the gear sets. Also thinking about the 3:55 swap. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | The problem is the offset in the backing plates. Even if you remove the backing plates the mounting flange welded to the housing is in a different position.
