Are the shoes and pedal adjusted properly? I would look into that as well as replacing the soft lines and re bleeding the system, preferably with a pressure bleeder.

My bet is that the shoes were not adjusted to proper clearance from the drums. Too much slack here will take too much pedal travel to push enough fluid to make the shoes contact the drums.

Wirewizards, Its ironic I just bled and adjusted my brakes on my 52 Good Humor Truck today.I started with all new system, lines, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shoes etc.I justed the shoes alittle and started adding brake fliud. The pedal kept going to floor sense there was no fluid in the lines and the new wheel cylinders, it took awhile.I would bled the wheel cylinders intill I got all air out of the lines and then readjust the brakes shoes.I did have two small leaks, one was the rear axle flex line .Just needed acouple of copper washers.Bill and Carl right.

You may need to bench bleed the master if it is new or was completely empty. You sound like a shop owner but I am linking this for the benefits of a noob that might come across this issue:

it turned out to be the flex hoses the front passenger and rear were leaking internally.thanks for all your suggestions.

Just so I understand, where does the fluid go when a flexible hose leaks internally?

Sounds to me like a bad master cyl. I never heard of brake lines leaking internally.

what happens when a line leak internally is the hose starts to swell up and reduces the brake pressure causing soft or no pedal.it starts to blow up like a ballon but not so big so that you can see it.

that's not an "internal leak" wizard, it's the lining of the hose breaking down and plugging the flow, a common problem with old hoses
