Hello all-
I ran out of daylight trying to get the wiper motor assembly out of my truck (55.2 Chevy 235 w/original vac wipers). I removed the three clutch head screws that were mounting the wiper motor under the dash, but that is as far as I got.

So for tomorrow, does the wiper motor & arm assembly come out (uninstall) as one component; or, do the actuator arms separate from the wiper motor? All I felt that felt removable was a return spring & I don't want to break anything. I need to remove the motor to get the metal behind it clean & here's the pictures of it. .

Brad see the spring with eyelet on each end where the two arms hook to the wiper motor. Pull on the eyelet to stretch the spring a little bit so you can pull it off the end of the stud. That's what holds the wiper linkage to the motor. Then slide the eyelet off the other side to remove the other linkage arm. After you get the first eyelet off, you'll see how simple a retainer setup it is.

Thanks Brian- I'll give it a try again. That thing must need a shot of blaster or other break free lube...

So, the motor will come out by detaching at that point, but do the linkage arms remain attached at the inside of the cowl? (The wipers pivot point? )

The linkage arms with the wiper pivot point are fastened to the inside and outside of the cowl. Just study how they are fastened on, it's all pretty basic stuff, and you shouldn't have any problem doing it.

Alrighty- it'll be a piece of cake & I'm sure being able to see in the daylight will help. It's remarkable how much space the wiper assembly used to take up under the dash to allow for arm movement. Neat stuff.

Here's a picture of the retainer spring. See how the hole gets bigger so when you push the eyelet forward it will release itself off of the wiper motor stud. Don't worry about breaking the spring (you probably won't) but if you do, you can get a new spring retainer for cheap from a parts vender.
