Not a lot, bypassed the heater core (again) after yet another one took a dump!

That's what I get for using an Austin Mini heater, the truck's obviously rejecting it!
I didn't think Lucas made heater cores..... grin

Only snag is i've got a breakfast meet/brass monkey run to attend on Sunday.

Best wrap up warm then!

Yea ole Howard Knapp truck is getting new rear brake lines...every-night...a little closer...the past 3 nights...choking on all the rust coming off the 1985 K5 Chevy Blazer backing plates...

Cant wait...

Everybody says "enjoy the journey".....not me...I will enjoy backing it out of the garage this summer...

I don't enjoy the climbing the mountain...I enjoy standing on the top and looking at the next hill top I have to climb..

It has been a couple months since I added my 2 cents to the "What did you get done on your bolt today", so update, although I have ask and gotten the answers to several questions.

Gas tank was cleaned out and installed, Fuel pump rebuilt. Distributor (HEI) rebuilt. Radiator had to be rebuilt. Engine and trans (700R4) installed and fine tuned. Cab mounted and painted - of course it is painted Aggie Maroon - and done a mountain of work on the fenders. Interior is complete, even with shoulder/lap seat belts. Had a professional glass man come to shop and install all the glass.

She made her first trip out of the shop under her own power today. Got about 100 ft and rear brake locked up. 5 ft in reverse cured that, but just to be safe she backed into the shop to have the brakkes checked. Very smooth running 250 ci engine.

Pulled the front wheels off my '55 2nd and checked front wheel bearings and brakes. I had gone thru the front end back in Sept of '13, and refreshed brakes and installed tapered rollers from CPP. Have driven truck nearly every day since then. Brake and bearings look perfect. Repacked the bearings and adjusted the brake shoes. Checked the toe in and all is good. Lubed all fittings, and should be good for another year or so....

I looked at it 5 times today as I walked past it in the garage . Sadly it looked the same every time . Oh, I did look in it once because I misplaced the one and only ignition key for it.

I got my driver side front drum brake back together with auto-adjusters added.

Now putting the hubs back together.

Does anyone know what a good grease is to use with my original style ball bearing wheel bearings?? (I've researched an come up with the old style "fibre" grease but I'm not sure what the modern day equivalent is)

Today I finally put the last bolt in securing the strips / wheel wells / bedsides and Frame bolts on my 66 C-10 Fleetside ... I was happy to get this done as it requires a lot of up and down crawling around to complete .... well almost ..there are two of the strip bolts I could not reach as they are above the mufflers and I am going to rig a "tool" to hold the nuts .

locogringo, I use std Valvoline wheel bearing grease that I've had for yrs. I use it on my new & old autos, tractors & trailers.
I see Valvoline has several different versons now and if I were to buy new I'd go w/the EP wheel bearing grease.
Good luck

Good catch Steve D, he'll need to correct that, so he doesn't have any problems.

After testing the sending unit I installed it in my gas tank and was going to install it when I realized I never ran the wires for it [ the red tag warning I took to seriously ] Anyway I ran the wires and retested the wires/ sensor and got it installed , I also finished hooking up the heater wires and hooked up the last defrost hose that I had left off to get at heater wires

Finally worked out some electrical gremlins. Brake lights and directionals are working, turn signal housing is no longer spinning halfway around the column. Still a couple electrical gremlins left to get to.

Finally got the front fenders (outer and inner) off the '53 today. Even after I sprayed the bolts with PB Blaster and letting it sit overnight, still had quite a few bolts that broke. It didn't take much to break them.

When I removed the radiator support, I discovered that the crossmember was broken around one of the two bolt holes. There is about a 2" square hole in the crossmember. Looks like I will have to weld in a patch and then drill the mounting hole.

Got he quirk about the mismatched fenders resolved yesterday. Knocked out/off all the old "bondo" off the bottom front of left fender., cut out all the rot and rebuilt he bottom, giving it the correct curve to match the right front. Now comes the bondo to cover up the weld seams. Life is good.

See pictures of mismatch in "Shape of Fender" thread posted Jan 30 - i think. ken

Changed the filler neck hoses,
They were only four years old but I've been noticing fumes when I fill her up.

The fumes go away after I drive a bit.

The outer of the big hose showed some cracking

So I decided to go with new hoses to see if it changes.

While I was busy in the cab my little guy started playing in the truck.

This is what he got done today

On the Good Humor truck, I just received back from Adams Driveshaft a total over haul on the 1955 axle. Turned the rear drums and press on new wheel studs. Installed new rear brakes. With new parking brake cables and doing a complete overall on the parking brake system. It works great. Also installed the rebuilt driveshaft over the weekend.I need now the two batteries and the Waldron exhaust system and ready to fire up this engine.

Rebuilt rear end.

Took a fender to a P&B shop as a test for possible additional work. Followed the sage advice in the Tech section on SB. So far so good. Fender could be ready as soon as late this week.

I finally got around to adjusting my headlights. I drew the chart on the back wall of the garage and hoped for the best. I'm sure the adjustment would have been closer had it been dark-night and I could have better seen the lights on the chart.

Noticed on a short cruise Sunday PM that I was smelling antifreeze. Popped the hood yesterday and found I have a leaking tank on the top side and a leak at the thermostat housing. Guess I know what I'll be doing the next few trips under the hood.

Made my truck ready for rainy spring days. Lubricated the vacuum wiper motor and removed the original wiper arm springs and replaced them with springs twice as thick and 4 times as strong.

Works like a charm, got cleaner windhsields on my truck than on my car i use daily grin

So really guys, If you have to choose between the good ole vacuum wipers or a new "safer" electic system, with good care and almost no money, you can rebuild the motor and increase the tension on the blades and I think its just as safe as the electric wipers. And it just feels right!

Now i have to place a hoze from the heater to the passenger windhield so i can fight the condensation on the windshields!

Just finished upgrading to an alternator using the DA plug 3 wire connection with the Delco 10SF alternator and actually followed the instructions. Works great, no dimming of the lights at idle or when turning on the heater blower. Not 100% happy with pulley axis being parallel to the belt travel, but that's another days issue to deal with. Took her for a ride in the snow and ice, couldn't help myself! Oh what fun it is to ride in a six banger stovebolt sled.....yee-ha!

I finished rebuilding my front hubs, fixed my bent DS front brake backing plate and then just couldn't stop. I sandblasted my lower fender brackets and heater delete plates. Then I installed the DS inner fender, splash pan to radiator seal, and grille support. The PS fender is a trial fit. It's actually starting to look like a truck again. Broke a front U bolt.

The roads here are really [censored] in lots of places , earthquake related damage.

Found a good one in the shed , cleaned it up , changed out the castor shims for ones a little thicker while I was there.

All good smile
