Hej guys im Hoping to win an online auction with studebaker gauges. The oil and amp gauges are lights, so I wonder when they should turn on. Also the speedo goes up to 120mph, but orginal goes up to 80 mph. Is that a problem?

I don't have the money right now for restored original gauges so these are just temporary because I want to be able to see engine temperature and how much gas u got left.

Are they easy to install?

Raoul

Hy Raoul, in order for the fuel gauge to work it must have a sending unit which operates in the same ohms range as the gauge it is designed to work with, I am not aware of the ohms range that Studebaker used, but I would find that out if I were you. The temperature gauge will require a matched sender as well if it is the electric type, if the gauge is a capillary tube type (long tube which runs from the back of the gauge to the engine) then that tube must be intact or it is useless. The speedometer will work if the cable connection is the correct type for the cable you have in your truck. In short I don't know if you will be creating more problems for yourself by trying to adapt Studebaker gauges to a Chevrolet, good luck.

That sounds like this will be a pita to fix then. Right now only my amp gauge works.

These studebaker gauges come from a 49 chevy 3100.the temp gauge i have now is connected with a tube to the engine. Theres not a lot of info on the auction site (almost none) ill hope for the best then..

I dont know whst to look for really

The studebaker gauges seem to come from a "1962 LARK" after some quick research

So i guess the temp gauge will not work because this one is electric?
Also, AMP & OIL lights have not been in use i guess?

the AD gauges are designed to work at 0 to 30 ohm range.
as 3B states the sender and gauge must match.

if you get a sender the is 0 to 90 ohm then youll have to find a gauge that range

I understand. I cannot find out what Ohm range the studebaker gauge works with.

I guess i'll hope someone outbids me on the gauge so i dont have to order a bunch of studebaker stuff!

OFCOURSE!!!

I now can understand why none of my gauges work (only speedo works a little and amp gauge works) My chevy has been 12volt converted for a long time ago before before we shipped it to europe. I guess the old gauges are 6volt, and thus burned to death by the 12volt system? I dont know if these new geuges are 12 volt or not.

Anyway, the fuelsender, does it work with 12volt? or do i have to buy a new 12volt sender?

Hy Raoul, the sending unit for the fuel gauge should work with twelve volts, the two operating coils in the fuel gauge in the dash can't handle the twelve volts. Most twelve volt conversions install a voltage reducer in front of the fuel gauge "Runtz" is one brand of reducer and from my experience a pretty good one, hope that helps.

If you just want some temporary gauges consider a under dash mount set to use until you get your gauges.

this set will work and is not very expensive
...link...

here is an inexpensive fuel gauge
...link...

I've used this gas gauge
...link...
it works well but is a bit more expensive.

you could restore you old gauges yourself for not to much money. Most of us have done this and there is a good tech tip on it.

good luck

The oil gauge is mechanical, it's probably fine and just needs the new line with the correct fitting.

The temp gauge is mechanical also. If the tube is gone it no good. You'll need a new gauge with tube attached.
New temp gauges are availiable from the vendors

connect the oil line to it, from the block to the gauge.

I,ve ordered a new speedo needle, speedo cable, some 12to6 volt regulators and I won the auction with the studebaker gauges. So now I can test what works and what doesn't. I'll probably be back for help later! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge guys!
