For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 34 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 34 | My build is a 49 3100. Found a great 55 235 and SM420 for minimum modification after finding 216 engine bad. The engine that came with truck was not original and had no SN anyways. Can you veterans recommend a rear end to go with this engine and transmission combo? I have the original but at a minimum will upgrade gears to 3:55:1. However before buying anything from Patrick's wanted to get suggestions.
Thanks

If you have an original 1949 3100, it would have an enclosed drive-shaft.
The 3.55 R&P conversion will get about 15% lower RPMs. Get a seals/bearing/bushings kit.
Others will advise on options for open-driveshaft rear ends.

PAtrick Here's a good suggestion.... You can save yourself $100 or so from retail prices by purchasing the 3.55:1 gear sets here..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-ring-pinion-gears.923013/#post-10823436. | | |
