I have some rust rot-through above my windshield and on one of the windshield corners. Anyone have someone that can fab and patch this and won't cost and arm and a leg? | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 | I am in Fredericksburg which isn't that near Houston, but I go down there a lot. It is tough to find a good cab in East Texas because of salt and the coast and humidity in the piney woods. What year cab are you looking for. This area has been picked pretty clean, but from here west and north you find more rust free cabs. I never recommend too many patch panels because you will get bogged down in patching and never finish the project. Farm trucks out of the Midwest make good cab donors because most of them have been in a barn all their life except for the harvest. And they are usually cheap. I recently bought a 54 2 ton GMC in Kansas for $1,000. I collect larger trucks, but the cab would fit on a pickup. I also bought a 46 and a 41 GMC 1 1/2 ton out of the Midwest for $850 and $750 and a 1 ton GMC for $450. They all only have surface rust.

Have been for 50 years. Although we transport mainly dry bulk commodities, I do have 2 flatbeds. Quite often I can get them moved by someone who has a partial load going south. All we need is a place to meet and someone to organize it. Before Jerry got all knocked up on his scooter, I threatened to invite him over to Houston for a bolter gathering and help folks out on these old trucks. Neither of my trucks are drivable at the moment, but count me in.

We could tack it onto an existing car show like the Nifty 50ees cruise in on Saturday nights in Spring (I go to that one occasionally) or the Kemah Chick Fil-A Saturday night cruise, which I haven't been to regularly since I moved to the north side. Neither of those would require anything more than just agreeing to show up on the same night, and anybody's running vehicle would be welcome regardless of style of build, whether original or hot rod or in between. | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | Your truck doesn't even need to be running yet to get together, meet each other and swap lies, er, I mean ideas. I hope you have better luck organizing a get-together than I do in this area. We used to get together often but everyone seems to have dropped out except me. | | | | Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 63 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 63 | I would be glad to assist in setting something up after the holidays. My preference would be to find a spot as centrall as possible for us so that any many as con will be able to drive their rides. I have questions about my 48 chevy truck that I can't get much help in the Richmond area and frankly the manauals are good if you know what you are looking for. I would like to meet and talk to people and see examples. Send me an email, I think they call it a private message, of those of you that are interested and where you are located so I can start looking. I am in the Richmond / Rosenberg (Sugar Land) area.
