Can someone tell me the correct engine color for my '66 292?

The best I can tell it was "green". But I have not been able to confirm this for sure. And even if if I could confirm that it's green I don't knolw which green.

I never thought this information would be this tough to find. Someone out there must know, right?

Can you help?

Thanks.

hey stephen, i know exactly what color your talking about. im rebuilding my 292 right now and after powerwashing off all the grease and dirt, i found that mine too has a light green color. all ive ever heard from people is that 292's only come in two colors, chevy blue and chevy orange. my dad has a 75 sports van that has chevy orange straight from the factory. my guess is that in the late sixties and through out the seventies they started painting them orange. im trying to find out where i can find the appropriate color green as well. keep looking, ill post if i find the correct color but i really dont want to have to settle for anything else but original either. anyone else know about this green color?

Try checking with the Eastwood Company. They deal with restoration products like paints and chemicals and equipment.

Ill look right now.

"This is the correct Olive color used on early GMC 6cyl engines. Sold in quarts." 34.95

I found this at brothers trucks under the paint section.

The 292 that I have is green as well, but I dont know what year of truck it came out of. Thanks for the heads up on the paint. I think that the green was only on the very first 292's.

The 261's were green, too. It seems to have been Chevy's way of denoting the larger, optional 6 for a few years.

Check out this link:

Ray Buck lives in Utah and has a great website at chevyasylum.com. He's got a '64 C-10 and seems to know the correct color on Page 11.
