Can someone tell me what I need to save and/or where I can find a kit with the springs and pins? good news is i think the shoes and drums are useable. one drum has some of the outer weld ring popping off bu im not going to tow anything crazy so i thnk they will be fine napa has rear brake cylinders for $70. ouch. anyone have a better source? | | | | Joined: May 2012 Posts: 271 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2012 Posts: 271 | found cylinders at chevsofthe40's listed for 3800 but look different. mine has a singe boss on the back and these have two angled at about 45 degrees toward front and rear of the truck with only 1 tapped. springs are piecemeal but i think mine are ok | | | | Joined: May 2012 Posts: 271 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2012 Posts: 271 | are the backing plate pins the same on 1/2 ton and 1 ton trucks? i see the half ton pins but not 1 ton for sale... | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 224 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 224 | I have a 1951 3800, which is a pre-Bendix brakes setup (started in 1953?). However you should know that the front brake wheel cylinders are different from the rear. I did notice that when I ordered my rear wheel cylinders from Chevsofthe40s, it was actually the front cylinder but mislabeled in the catalog. I ended up ordering the rear cylinders from Jim Carters. They happen to have a better selection of the hard to find brake parts IMO that you may not find at your FLAPS.

I'll compare prices from everywhere and take care to make sure i get the right parts. at one point i read that 3/4 ton rear drum is the same as 1 ton front. maybe theyre messing up 3/4 ton rear vs 1 ton rear. | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 75 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 75 | Rock Auto catalog list brake shoes, brake cylinders ,hoses and such for 49 3100 and some parts for 1 ton but not specifically for a 3800. wonder what the diff. would be?
