Does anybody have an idea of how I can open the windshield of my '46? The p.o. sealed it shut since it didn't have a crankout assembly and maybe it leaked. I don't see any trace at all, inside or out of any sealant, glue or caulk. I can push a lower corner out a little but it seems the hinges may be frozen and the frame must be sealed some how.
The rubber seal must have been replaced before I got the '46, it looks too good to be original and I don't want to damage it, bend the hinges or worse.

I saw on one of those car shows a week or two ago that some guy used a piece of 2' long wire all the way around the windshield to separate the window to the frame. One guy on the inside and one guy on the outside working in unisyn using a "sawing" motion all the way around separating and/or cutting through the rubber.

I am guessing you already did this....but did you try checking the spot up under the dash where the window crank is to see if someone did something creative like a bolt or screw to keep the window shut after they removed the crank assembly? Or used screws somewhere up there under the dash?

The only attaching points of the windshield frame are the bottom center and one hinge on each side of the top 2 sections, near the center of each window. You can push the edges out because of the springing of the center bar mount. The suggestion to look under the dash, may be the best way to start. The PO may have latched the bottom somehow to keep it closed. Push from the bottom center, of the V, to try to open it, if it is not latched.

Steppenwood, that's a good idea. I may give that a try if I don't find any fasteners holding the frame in.
46 in progress, I have checked for screws and other fasteners holding the frame and didn't find anything. It would be easy to check again just to make sure before I do any thing else. I don't have pix posted, yet, but I'd like to. For me, it's no so much how to post the pix, I can get help for that I know, I just can't decide what setting to use. Sound's silly, but true. Every time I planned a shot of the '46 I changed my mind about something or discovered that the pic might make the truck look like it's got a micro-wave antenna mounted on the hood. I guess I should just shot a few and pick the most flattering for the truck.
It's never been restored, just a several year old so-so paint job is new, but it sure is a fun truck.
46 Chev, I'll check again for fasteners as I didn't see any the first time.
