| | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 208 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 208 | Hello all, I'm new to the site and as of today I am a proud owner of a 1949 3800 1-ton flatbed w/hydro dump. I have restored many things over the years from antique furniture to old Coke machines and I was so sure of myself on my latest endeavor. However as I looked at my newest project sitting in my garage I am getting a little overwhelmed by what needs to be done. My plan is to just take inventory of what I have and what I want to tackle first. First up remove the bed (that lift cylinder looks very very heavy) and then remove the cab. clean, repair & paint the frame and go through the various suspension parts, axle, brakes and engine. Next the cab, repair floor and cowl rust paint and wiring. last but not least clean & paint the bed frame, replace all bed wood, replace the lift cylinder seal's and hoses. So I have my work cut out for me in the coming months. I want to restore it to a semi-original, I want to upgrade a few things like 6v to 12v and the upgrade the rear axle & brakes. The 3800 will be more labor and money payout, than your other projects.
It will pay off many times over though, when you start driving it, with the smiles and waves you will get.
I like it best when people slow down smiling and waving, then start taking pictures.
Don't hold back to ask questions, this group lives for the questions.
We have many Show Me State members, that will be more than willing to help you out.

Just make a list of priorities and start working away at it. Don't let it sit too long, keep at it. (Mine took me 5 years in my spare time.) Little by little you will see the progress and that will give you incentive to keep going. We are your support group. As Don says, you will get payback when it's done. Good luck.

A lot of us will be at the StoveBolt Reunion next Sept.
If you and your family can make it, they all will have a good time. Also, you don't have to bring a truck. Bring lawn chairs and be ready to meet a great group of people. It is not your normal show.
