I know that there has been many discussions about the windshield crank mechanism on the internet. I am in the process of repainting my 46 2-ton and I am missing some pieces on my windshield crank out assembly. I have the gear box, but the stainless strip is long gone and the gears are worn. I will fabricate what I need for my truck, but it brings up the question of what do other people do?

I run a fabrication shop and I have just finished up a bolt on brake kit for the bigbolts and wanted to gauge some interest in if I should make brand new units that do not require a core or to be rebuilt? Something that I can machine out of aluminum and make it much stronger than it is now.

I am willing to invest in the design and engineering in this if there are a lot of people out there that are needing these and no one is supplying them?

Please provide some feedback.

Thank you,

Harold, I will contact him. I was thinking about reproducing the whole regulator, strap and all!

I can not find where anyone is making them?

The only thing wrong with mine is the little brass piece that keeps the gears in alignment. I can make a new one, but if you need the dimensions of the strap I could get them for you.

If you can figure out how to replicate the stainless strap I think there will be some demand, that seems to be the part that makes a core "rebuild able".

Randy,
I have ben trying for months to get hands on a strap. I have even thought about fabricating my own, if I could gets full specs on the material, esp thickness. I haven't even been able to find a broken strap. Please let me know if you have any luck making them.
