I had to send my combo fuel/water temp gauge to be rebuilt. I thought the water temp sender thread would be a typical pipe thread. I was wrong. I need to put a temporary plug in the head while the gauge and sender is being fixed so I can use the truck. 1/4" NPT too small and 3/8" NPT too big. I thought this info would be readily available but haven't been able to find. Hoping someone can assist.

Try a 5/8-18 UNF

But not sure what a fuel/ water gauge would be.

Pretty sure that's a straight pipe thread in the head.

Pipe thread did not start until the electric sender came in 1956.

yes 5/8" NF. A pipe fitting looks like it will fit, and will actually screw in, but it is wrong, wrong, wrong.
