Anyone know if the original seat had a trim panel on the back of the top of the bench seat? If so, where could I find this panel?

Jim Carter Truck Parts sells seat-back cardboard covers in three colors.

brown (black and maroon, also)

I do not know if these were originally available from GM?

My '54 3600 was bought new in 1954 by the father of the man I bought it from. It lived its whole life on a farm up in Kalispell MT and had been retired to the barn awhile when i bought it.
It came with a seat back cover in brown that matched the brown grain pattern of the seat.
The cardboard material it was made out of was similar to that of the remnants of the door panels, and the whole deal sure looked original.

There are pics of it if you click on the link in my signature, then scroll back to page 6-7 near the bottom. Should be some other seat pics there too.

Its a little flimsy feeling due to weird mount points but i like the way it looks and it matches my new seat upholstery so I've kept it.

Hope that helps some,

Chooglin

There has been some discussion here of these panels being available on 5-window cabs, as looking through the corners the exposed seat back would have been visible. As Tim stated above I have never seen factory documentation to support the theory. That being said if someone has the information please post it.

Tim, Chooglin and Brad, Thanks for all you input and decided I will get the bench seat back trim cover from JC truck parts. Seems to me that this must have been an item they installed in the deluxe cab 5 window trucks. If not, it will at least make the back of the seat look better from the rear windows. Chooglin, GREAT expos say on the reconditioning of your truck!! Cool!!
