Is this forum only for truck owners? I have an L6 that I think is considered a Stovebolt engine and I plan on putting it in a 56 Bel Air. Can I ask forum members about that?

Ask away! The site is primarily geared towards trucks, but many of the issues are similar. Plus, many of the people here have cars also. I'm sure they'll help out wherever they can.

TexApache, just remember that the site is for trucks and even if the engine is a 6cyl General Motors, you are working on a car. If you will post your questions in the Greasy Spoon forum you will get your answers and maybe not offend those who are truck oriented. You will find that many of us have old cars along with our trucks and questions arise once in a while about them. These questions are almost always posted in the "Spoon". We have "Moderators" in charge of each Forum and your posts can be moved or deleted by them and rest assured they will not hesitate to move them.
I'm sure others will chime in about this, maybe even the site owners to give a more clarified view of their purpose for the "Stovebolt Page". I don't know if an L6 truly fits the technical definition of a Stovebolt. JMO so don't shoot the messenger.

A 1956 235 car engine is considered to be a "stove bolt six" engine (probably considered to be a "third-generation" stovebolt, depending on how you define the stovebolt-engine genealogy).

Stovebolt.com is this gigantic discussion board, and as described above it is dedicated to pre-1973 trucks (any GM truck, but mostly Chevrolet trucks).

Many car 235s engines are used as replacement engines in pre-1963 GM trucks. Your 1956 car 235 would have hydraulic lifters, a slightly different carburetor (probably), and a non-metallic composition camshaft timing gear. A truck would have mechanical/solid lifters, maybe a different carburetor, and a metal cam gear. There are also other differences between car/truck 235s.

Any of your engine question should be posted in the engine forum. However, be sure to state the engine is in a car. You might get a few jibes, but you will get better replies if car/truck makes a difference.

Any other car-only related questions should be posted in the Greasy Spoon, as suggested/posted above by Martin.

Good feedback, guys. The engine in my panel is a car engine, but if I don't mention it, no one knows. Yes, the lifters are hydraulic, but who cares? We have some experts here on the stovebolt engines (not me) so ask away.
