like my subject line says, it's time to rebuild my 305 after it started knocking pretty bad. so first off, where can I get all of the bearings for this monster? canter and egge don't sell em any more from what I can tell. any suggestions?

I would contact a crankshaft grinder in your area, they can usually source bearings at a good price and you will get the correct bearings after they prep your crankshaft.

problem is every place i have talked to has never heard of a 305 v6, so I'm pretty much on my own.

Your local NAPA store may have them in stock, if not, they will have them overnight. Not that uncommon, just gotta find an older counter-person who is willing to look in the catalog not on the puter.

I've got bearing part numbers and crankshaft grinding specifications, if that will help. Shoot me a PM or an email. Be aware that some of the bigger V6 crankshafts were precision-balanced to a specific piston/rod set, so swapping cranks without rebalancing could result in a pile of really expensive junk parts after a rebuild. I don't think the 305 is that critical.

My Federal-Mogul shop specifications book states that if the crankshaft is reground, the rod and main journals must be surface-hardened by the "Tuftriding" process or something similar.

I traded a 65 GMC with the 305 V6 with less than 10,000 miles on a fresh rebuild to my neighbor across the road for a load of rock for my driveway and he spread it out. Engine has sat for a long time but was sealed up including air cleaner. I'm sure he would sell the engine cheap because all he needed was the steering column for his 65 Chevy.PM me, if interested, and I can get contact info from him.
