Today I picked up a bunch of parts for my suburban including about 7 or 8 doors for the front 2 for the rear about 5 dashes a complete 41 to 46 1/2 ton chassis nos floor shift transmission still in the crate front fenders rear 38 fenders and more stuff that I have yet to sift thru. My question is about the front doors.will these doors fit trucks from 41 to 46? Also are the doors from say 37 thru 46 the same? And one more question.did 39 chevy truck doors have window frames on the glass or is that 41 thru 46.my suburban is a 42 by the way any and all info is appreciated.

Generally you can look at vendor parts and see what part numbers are the same. Like Jim Carter, Chevys of the 40's or equiv. That's a good indication. Window glass would be a good indication and years covered of a manual. The Guru's here will know.

It looks like 39-46 doors were the same for the same style cab/truck.

Ok so the doors from 30s to 46 are the same.and truck doors fit the suburban?

Doors from pickups and other cab-type trucks do not fit suburbans or panel trucks.

The question was about front doors. All light/med trucks and panels and suburbans seem to have the same doors within a certain era type.

The upper rear part of the front doors on the suburbans, panels, and canopy express trucks are indented to match the side panels of the trucks. Its pretty visible if you look at a picture.

I guess if you have a 41 truck and a 41 Suburban, you can see a difference. I do see the body lines you speak of on a 42. (same as poster) One across the top of door and one at belt line? Makes a Deco suburban door really valuable!! Seems like AD have same doors and I know TF does.

The Master Parts Catalog at the link I gave above, shows that CCAB, and SGL UNIT, and COE have different doors (39-46).

These abbreviations have been discussed a few times, and I think the consensus opinion was:

CCAB = regular Commercial Cab = pick-up style cab

SGL UNIT = Single Unit body = panel body (panel, canopy, suburban)

COE = Cab Over Engine

While the doors will interchange, the early passenger side door ('39-'41?) had the lock in the door handle. The later door through '46 had a separate lock below the handle.

Well I definitely have truck and suburban doors.ill look next at the lock location

Late 36 or low cab,through 38 interchange only with each other.

Suburban, panel and canopy door are featured difftently at the upper rear to match body lines. 36 thru 38 doors are different from 39 thru 46 46 having a lock cylinder hole on the right

Does this apply to the later AD trucks? I have a 49 panel and a set of what I think are pickup doors that I was planning on using as they are in great shape.

All 1947-55st side doors fit all cab sizes (for all models).

There are differences in the side windows, latches, and catches for A-D trucks:
47-50
51
52-55st

However, doors can be interchanged (for all size trucks/cabs) between 47-55st, as long as you use latches/catches that match the year of the doors.

Okay, Thanks Tim. I was sure glad to hear the doors on the AD's interchange. I've been holding on to those doors for five years and looking forward to using them. Thanks for the tip on matching the latches, etc. I hope to be able to get them installed this year!!!

(As far as 1941 to 1946 1/2 ton)---I just put a 1946 truck cowl on a 1941 panel body . the two door will interchange far as size . But the body lines are different . If you are a good metal man you could change the body lines.-- "There for a while I thought I was going to have to attempted to make a set of panel doors from truck doors".( Finely )--Found a good set of panel cab doors-- Saved by bell--HA

I have not been privy to your earlier posts Wire . but I have to ask the obvious question ..were do you find a stash like that ??

I bought a suburban from a fella down the street from me and he had been collecting parts for it.when I made the deal he sold me soo many extra parts that I now have a solid stash.a bunch of doors for the trucks and suburban, dashes, grill pieces, headlight assemblies, a complete rolling 1/2 ton frame and soo many other parts . including a set of 36 37 38 suburban rear fenders.
