It has been recovered already with new padding but the springs, especially on the drivers side have lost its firmness so its kind of like sitting in a hole. I am trying to keep the truck all original. Can anything be done to the original seat to get back the firmness, can the springs be fixed in any way or is it a lost cause? | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Are the springs broken?
If not, a firm seat can be accomplished by reupholstering the seat and putting in at least one layer of firm material.
If any spring is broken, it should be replaced and reconnected to other springs (as originally done).
I think that Denny Graham has a photo-log/write-up on doing this (he will let us know, soon).

Then install new burlap and dense foam, Mike B | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | No help here Tim, my seat was in excellent shape, very firm all the way across. I even used the original horsehair (rubberized coir) pad simply replacing the old cotton padding and cover.
If you have broken or weak springs my only suggestion, and the way I would cope with it, would be to find a donor seat and scavenge one/ones from that. dg

Fortunately I was able to find the same size spring through an online upholstery site. I'm not positive that the spring tension is identical to the originals but it sure feels a lot better on my aching keester. If you need a couple I think I have 3 or 4 extra in the shop, PM me.
