Found this through a local auction company that was auctioning off 60 cars or so. I knew it was too rare to let it go since it's only about an hour south from me so I bid on it sight unseen, only have three photos from the auction catalog to look at.

Wonder if there are any seat frames stuffed in the back?

Looking forward to getting it home next week and looking through it.

Phil,

Are you a glutton for punishment? That truck looks like a great project.

In a few years, I'll live only about 5 hours for you. I'll try to drive by to see your progress.

Merry Christmas,

Phil, I hope it's all there, beautiful truck when she's done. I'll bet you're curious what's all in the back, maybe a lot of extra parts.

That is what they call 'very restorable' in adspeak.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

Not sure if this is a candidate for restoration or not. However I'm certain there are some good parts on it or in it regardless.

More photos to come.........

Welcome to the Prewar Suburban Owners Club. Your official badge is in the mail.

One Stovebolt member transferred the suburban-specific parts from a rusted-out suburban to a good panel truck. Judging from the pictures, it turned out well, so that is an option if the suburban is too far gone. http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/hart_john_1946.htm

Have one exactly like that. Finished it a few years ago. Let me know if you have any questions!

Trkngmc. Hope it is a salvageable find . You may want to contact wire wizard in post below ASAP to see how many of his parts you can use to make a complete vehicle.

If Phil decides to part out this Suburban, I am certain he will post ads in the Swap Meet.

If you want to let him know your interests in parts, please do it in email message and/or in a Private Message.

Yep it's a rough one for sure. Have not had time to clean it out and see what's in the back but I do know the middle and rear seats are gone. Bummer. Missing the transmission too. I uploaded about 40 photos for your viewing pleasure.

I do see the grille hiding out back there with both the upper and lower rear clam shell doors.

Is that correct for the clam shell hardware the weird looking latch system on the both insides of the rear quarter panels?

Thoughts and comments are very appreciated.

That's not a 1941. In 1941, the door lock was in the door handle and a different type of front inner fender bracket was used. Also, the park lights were different. Can't quite read the serial number.

trknGMC, You can use rear suburban seats from any 1938 to 1946 IF you are making new floorboards. I used all my seats form a 1942 GMC and put them in my 1939 burb. The keyhole mounts just have to be relocated.Stan

Well boys she'll be going by the way side by amd by.....

Way too rough for restoration. No rear seats. However still lots of great parts on this unit to make it worth while to part out.

Keep your eyes open in the swap meet section shortly. I'll be posting up what is for sale and prices respectfully.

Happy New Year to all!

Rear seats relatively simple to replicate (if you can get one to copy) from scratch. A restored Suburban w/o that 3rd row generally has more "eye" appeal (IMHO)

Value is in rear doors (whether barn or tail gate/clamshell style)

Hi Guys,
I have a 1946 Clam Shell Suburban and I'm looking for a rear door handle if anyone has a spare. I am starting to collect some parts to start working on this vehicle.

Thanks, Russ

There are very few rules, Miss Church

These rules are an attempt to assure that posts in forums are useful/helpful 10 years from now.

Buying/trading/begging/gifting posts have short-time usefulness, so those types of posts should be made in the Swap Meet, where posts are automatically deleted after a certain period of time.

Thank you for your consideration.
