If anyone has done hinge pins on one of these trucks before , let me know what late model hinge pin will work. Thanks Tim | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 603 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 603 | I had to do them on my 57 LCF. Not only were the pins worn out, but the holes in the hinges also. I chose the approiate size bit and drilled out my hinges and replaced the pins with the exact size grade 8 bolts. I ground the hex heads round, and they look factory. I think some of them took a 3/8 hole and pin, and one or two of the worst ones had to be drilled out to 7/16. Also in some of them, I put a washer in between the two hinge halves, to make up for the "down" wear.

I ground the heads off,and replaced the pins, with a set I bought off of "E-Bay",(4 pins, plus 8 bushings),for about $12.00. One of the pins,(the lower passenger side, cause of the trouble,)was frozen in the hinge body, and broken-off,flush with the "top hole". I put the body in a vise, and heated the area around the pin. When the area was heated enough, the pin was driven out with a punch, and hammer. I then gently drove the bushings flush with the housing, and installed the pin. I ground the pin off, about 1/4" below the bottom hole, and peened the end,to keep it from "Riding-up". "Riding-up" could result in the pin eventually raising above the bottom hinge hole. Hope this helps. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 42 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 42 | Thanks guys, that's the kind of info I need. Need to get the hinges off the truck first, I've been dosing the hinge mounting screws with penetrating oil, should be able to get the drivers door off the truck tomorrow. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,233 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,233 | Bigtim, I like your trucks...
