I have a 54 chevy 1/2 ton truck and I'm needing a crankshaft replaced. What year 235 engine crankshaft will interchange in this engine. And does anyone have a link to where I can pick one up?

1954-62 235 and 1954-63 261 will interchange.
1953 Powerglide 235 will also fit, but I have seen where the hole for the pilot bushing was undersize on these, as these were only used with automatics.

If there is an oldtime automotive machine shop in your area, check to see if maybe they've still got a reground shaft in stock. Some of the machine shops where I've worked never discarded anything, even if it was many years obsolete. There are usually several 235/261 cranks on Ebay, but the shipping cost on something that big and heavy can get pretty steep.

my book shows (Chevy inline 6 number & casting code guide) the casting number 3701488 fits 1953 - 1962 Chevy 235 & 1954 - 1962 Chevy 261. that's what I have in my 235 truck 3100 and its a 1956 motor.

thanks for the replies, and sorry I haven't replied sooner. I had to carry my dad to the E.R Friday so I have been pretty busy. I checked with the 3 machine shops we have here already. they could turn the crankshaft I have but I would have to pick up the bearings some where else. And I knew that the crank would works in either a 261 or 235 but wasn't sure what years would work. I found that Rock auto had some remans that come with the bearings and they are asking $267.00 + $33.00 for shipping and also charge a $150.00 refundable core charge. My wife found a coupon for %5 off so that would pay for half the shipping. I replaced the crank in a 65 235 and picked up the crank and bearings separately. I ended up with having to return the bearings twice because they had sent the wrong ones. So I figured get the crank and bearings as a kit and wouldn't have the problem. I might spend a extra 15 bucks but at least I would not have the head ache of having the wrong bearings.

I don't think they made a 235 in 65.

Must have meant 230, or maybe that is why he got the wrong bearings.

Speaking of bearings, the only main bearings that fit a 1954 235 would be for a 1953 full pressure engine, 1954 all, and early 1955. Mid 1955 the mains changed from pin locating to tang.
