Bought a original round muffler for my 53 chevy truck from Jim carter but it does not have any markings for inlet or outlet which way does it go ?

If it's not marked it likely doesn't make any difference. Sometimes the marking is as simple as an arrow stamped into one of the flanges.

Don't know if they have them anymore, but most mufflers used to have a drain hole to drain condensation from the muffler. That hole would go towards the rear of the vehicle
