on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2014 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2014 Posts: 23 | I had my 2 ton apart this weekend, trying out a disk brake idea, and noticed the bearings don't look like a normal roller wheel bearing. In addition, they have no rear/inner seal. It looks like you pump grease through the bearings and a little steel hat directs the excess back to the front of the drum, mostly.
How have i never seen this before? I've wrenched for 20 years.
Possible to convert it to normal tapered rollers and a real seal? Our do i just really need to find a p30 axle? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | They are called conical brgs. They were used for many years back then on the wheel brgs & diff. carrier brgs. The replacements are normal tapered roller brgs. You are supposed to replace both inner & outer if you need to replace one. It seems to me it should have a seal in it. Ive been in a lot of them & never saw one without a seal. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
