Hello Guys,
I've finally decided to put a new engine in my 65 C-10, but first I need to clean up and paint the engine bay area. I am not doing the installation work, but if I want the truck to look good under the hood, I need to do the cleaning and painting job myself. The only thing that I can figure is for me to remove the engine at home, clean and paint what is needed, then call the mechanic to come get my truck and do the installation.
Here's my main concern: I've got a 2000lb hoist, an engine stand to put my old engine on, and all the tools that I need, but I have never separated a 283 from a 700R4 transmission (or any engine from any trans, might as well lay it all out) I would pull the radiator, hoses, hei dist, take off the fan, water pump, unhook exhaust, all appropriate wiring and hook-ups in the way. Make sure my transmission is tied up good with lifting straps or something. Will all this give me enough room to move the engine forward enough to slip off of the trans?
Thanks, Joseph
