The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Fender Brace Install

So have put the front fenders back onto my 1950 3800. Of the two brace rods that run from the cab bell-housing bump to the inside of the fender, the rod on the passenger side has a slight bend nearest the cab.

I've looked at pictures of other AD trucks and haven't noticed that particular bend. Is that original or the result of some "incident" by the previous owner?

Follow-up question: I replaced the 216 in the truck with a later year 235 with the oil filter mounted above the manifold, blocking the driver side brace. Seen any clever solutions to this issue?

1. Both braces were straight rods.

2. The oil filter was mounted the front or rear of the intake manifold.

ah. So from the descriptions I think I have the SC-660 filter which would seem about right. Here's a pic of my filter installation, do you think it should be further back towards the firewall? There isn't a heckuva lot of room to move it forward.

Ours appear to be positioned in about the same place front-to-rear Brad, but it looks like my bracket is much larger and holds the filter farther away from the manifold so it interferes with the brace. Wonder if I can take the huge bracket off of mine and u-bolt the filter directly to the intake?

That has to be the solution. The huge bracket looks like it was designed to emulate the contour of the manifold, holding the filter further away for some purpose. Funky!

That did the trick. Removed that huge bracket and the canister bolted right upto the manifold. I wonder why that bracket was there in the first place? It would have left enough room under the filter for generator the size of a basketball.

I've never seen one, but maybe someone with a COE could take
a look and see if the bracket was used on them? It's definitely
not homemade or jerry rigged and looks to be factory made to
fit. Also it might have been from a stationary installation
since many of the stovebolts were used for that purpose.
