The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Tons 'o Fun Steering colum placement .

Po had removed the cab to redo the frame etc. but for some reason the steering is not or seems like it sits to far down for anybody but gumby.

From the bottom of the dash the space is 12" roughly and the shaft comes straight out,I have seen pictures where it looks like there is an outer sleeve then the shaft in the center.

The only way to put this one up as it is to actualy bend it.
As it is it turns the wheels.

The steering box is mounted but it appears to have a shaft all the way through,I guess the question is does the box rotate within its mount? Or is it just the incorrect box?

There should be a bracket like this.

You need to loosen the steering box at the frame and rotate it up to the proper position.

Got it today ,two bolts going down through the frame with a cap that looks like a main bearing cap,loosened them up and rotated the column up.I was thrown off by later model steering boxes that the bolts actually screw into the box itself verses the clamp method.

Still missing the outer shaft tube and the dash mount.

I see different sizes of the dash mount offered 3" and 4" does it really matter which one?

I also pulled the top of the transmission off and had some stuck gears from non use,freed them up and now have all gears and a strong clutch to boot.

I also pulled and resoldered a leak in the radiator,cleaned,painted and reinstalled so that part is done.

All and all productive day and it reminds me why I like Chevy so much.
