I am in the process of making some anchor brackets to hold the seatbelts for my 41. It has been a long time since I have had a vehicle with lap belts and a bench seat.
Before I start welding, I have a couple of questions: 1) Aesthetically, where should the female end (fixed length side)of the seatbelt lay when extended out on the seat? This is when the vehicle is being shown not when the seatbelts are being used.
2) Are there any attributes as to where the buckle and latch should rest when being worn (ie is there any ergonomic advantages to have the hardware placed at your bellybutton or off to the side)? The 3 point belts on all of my more modern vehicles have the female end very close to the corner where the seat bottom and back meet.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

It doesn't matter on 2 point belts where the buckle is. There is no wrong placement. Allows me to get a hold of it to put the shoulder belt in when I buckle up. If it was further towards the center of the body I'm not sure the shoulder strap would sit right. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 | I have the basic lap belts. I installed the fixed ends (end with the tip that plugs into the buckle) on the outside and the buckle ends on the inside. I don't show my truck so I am unaware of any seat belt protocol but since mine is a driver I put those rewinders on the outside fixed ends so they retract out of the way when they are unhooked. I let the buckle ends lay straight out towards the dash on the seat. Good luck Dave | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 1,611 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 1,611 | Gentlemen,
Thanks for the input. It makes good sense that the female end of the belt is near the corner of the seat bottom and back on a shoulder belt arrangement, never really thought of it much, but makes good sense...thanks. Dave I think my set up will be very much like yours but in a Deco. Did you mount the belts near the cab floor, including the retracting side? It looks like I will need to fabricate a bracket to elevate the retractor end so the male end of the belt doesn't get lost behind the seat.
Thanks again,
