I have a 53 chevy truck and I was wondering what battery I should use everytime I look one up for a 53 it gives me a 6v I converted to 12v .. Looking for something that fits in original compartment and the proper cranking amps for a later 235 engine .. Thxs

I'm using a 96R72 it's 600 CCA. I have a 55 235 with a 6 volt starter. Barely bump it 90% of the time and it starts.

Looks like this installed.

any store should be able to take the dimensions and match it to a 12 volt

You mean the deminsion from the 6v ?

Yes, measure the 6v battery (or the battery-space in the battery holder) and find a 12v battery to match the space (and, preferably, with a top dimension that fits inside the battery hold-down frame).

Years ago, I matched a 12v from Walmart and a 12v battery from Sam's Club.

I have a 12 Volt Diehard Group 24 Battery in my 54 half ton. Fits perfectly in the original Battery compartment.
