I have an air filter located on the drivers side incorporated into the radiator mount bracket to the firewall. Since my radiator support was damaged I got a better one but it does not have the bracket like on the old one. I know I can just swap out the bracket but I was wondering where the air cleaner mounts with the brace without the air cleaner mount on it. The first link is my original with the air cleaner on the brace, the second is the replacement radiator support with the plain brace. Was this changed by 1952 or did it depend on the engine?

On my '50 COE, the air cleaner is mounted next to the battery box, under the passenger seat. There is a long tube that sweeps forward and to the driver's side that attaches to the carb. This is not the best place in terms of drawing in relatively clean air.

This link show a photo of the air cleaner from behind. The air cleaner is against the inside of the right frame rail and is tucked in just to the right of the transmission.

I wonder what year they moved it to under the hood?
I will just cut off the air cleaner mounting parts and bolt them to the refurbished radiator support.

Are we talkng about a GMC COE, & a Chevrolet COE ? If so, that was one of the evident differences in the two makes. If not someone in the past, made the improvement. All '47-'55 1st series GMC COE's have there air cleaner under the hood with the throat of the updraft carb. facing forward. On a '47-'53 Chevrolet COE the air cleaner is under the cab floor as Lightholder's Dad mentioned, with the carb. throat facing the rear. 1954, & '55 Chevrolets were the same as the GMC's. I've changed the carburetors, & air cleaners on two (a '51, & a '53)Chevy COE's, to get them from under the floor.

Great idea Spanky, as usual. My 53 Chev is down on the passenger frame rail as you stated,a foot or two rear of the draft tube. Can't be the best spot for it
