Used a suction cup type puller and it worked as advertised. One more tick off the to do list.

I thought I got a real score. I am home now and inspected the parts properly. The fentons are very poor quality control. Exhaust outlet on one side is 53mm and on the other 45mm ! Intake has very big step in the gas flow area that WILL impede performance . I think this has just been made for looks.
I have some engineering work to do now to make these parts good. | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 639 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 639 | That's sweet, Coneboy! | | | | Joined: Oct 2014 Posts: 136 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2014 Posts: 136 | Yesterday the old '53 3100 saw the light of day for the first time since 1988. We rolled it out of the barn for a good pressure washing, inside and out.
Since I had taken the seat out last week, I sat on a five gallon bucket to steer it as my wife pushed. I offered her the option, she didn't want to drive. LOL
First I had put a folding chair in there, but it was too tall, so I used the bucket. I took pics of both and put them on facebook, asking my friends to help me decide between captain's chairs or bucket seats for my truck.
I also removed the gas tank from inside the cab. That 26 year aged gas sure was nasty, and fortunately there was less than a gallon of it.
Under the gas tank, I found a Buffalo Nickel. Somebody must have lost it through the seat many years ago.
My nephew showed up with his tractor just in time to help me pull the truck back into the shop.
We also got all of what was left of the bed bolts loose, but were not able to remove the bed. It has a farm built rear bumper with a piece of vertical angle iron on that is welded to the outside of the stake pocket on one side. I didn't have any batteries charged for my cordless grinder, so the bed will wait until next time.

The old truck is coming together and should pass vehicle inspection so I can get it licensed. Next is the "bailing wired" Rochester Carburetor.. so maybe it will start without priming it every time ! Look out "Engine Bay Forum", here I come with carb questions..

It's been challenging and fun at the same time. New wheels and tires, new bumper, headlight bucket, turn signal unit, brake light switch, all the wiring, finding the new vacuum motor and getting the wipers installed, I'm excited! I have to thank the many people on the Stovebolt forums for the wealth of information, its really, really helped. I've got a ton of stuff left to do, but its a good start.....By the way, this is a Texas truck, originally in Wink, Texas I think..... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1qsbybcf8vi3ptj/AAD-yDz3zjTXOCKb2CBQCtWXa?dl=0

Fortunately, the 5/8" thick steel was bolted on; not welded. I could tell he finished making the bolt holes with a torch; probably after burning a tool up (1/2 of one hole looks drilled). Post some pictures of it when you can. I like the "make your own" farm accessories. And, welcome to Stovebolt! Brad

Boy are my hands cold. All coming together slowly. If you are running a SBC like me you will run into some clearance problems with the exhaust manifolds. The 216/235/261 sixes will have no clearance issues.
I had previously used an 83 GMC IFS in my sub which allowed the engine to sit a little lower with the stock front mounts. With the Danforth setup the crossmember itself is lower resulting in the 283 being very low between the frame rails. In this position the spark plugs would not be accessable. So I will have to fab custom front mounts to get the engine up so I can at least see the plugs. I will have to wait till spring to finish this project now. Wisconsin winters are for snowmobiling,Ice fishing and deer hunting and not for laying under an old truck wrenching.

I'm kind of stuck now and don't know what to do about the frame under the cab. I may build a strong stand and jack up the cab onto it; then paint the frame. It looks like my rear differential was originally red(?). I gave it a big drink of 90w lube to get it filled 1/2" below the fill plug. I did have a problem after I had it overhauled.Trans on the jack stand, the trans wouldn't go in the bell housing.I saw the throw out bearing wasn't sliding on the snout sleeve.Saw a hair line crack, actually two of them. Called the trans shop they had extras so I replace it. I think the hot tank expanded the cracks during cleaning. After that it went in like butter. http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s554/icecreamman55/008_zps439a3baa.jpg[/IMG] | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 388 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 388 | Ground down some welds from a patch panel I put on the door | | | | Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 104 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 104 | Worked on getting both window regulators ready for painting. The two originals were loose, could pull the arm by hand. I have another 52 2 ton for parts that had two good regulators, just need cleaning. I compared the two and found the ones off my truck have the teeth on the big gear worn down to about half what they should be. I think this truck was a commercial gravel truck at one time so the windows probably got run up and down a bunch each day. The parts truck was always a farm truck I think so maybe the windows didn't get used near as much. Lot of little tedious stuff to get done before I can put the doors back together.

Last weekend I removed the bed and set it up on some sawhorses. Prior to removing it, my thought had been to replace the bed cross sills, both sides, front panel and tailgate due to rust. However, after removing it and getting a better look at the condition, my plan now is to restore all the original parts, except the cross sills, those are the only parts that are too far gone to save.
This weekend I removed the hood and radiator. I also removed the lower hood latch and the hood latch panel. To my surprise, the underside of the hood latch panel is blue. It looks like the Transport Blue color. The truck is red and has always been red...how did that blue paint get in there?

As far as I know it was never wrecked. The truck has been in my family since my Dad purchased it new. That is what puzzled me about the underside of the hood latch panel being blue on a truck that has always been red.

Maybe at the last inspection it was discovered that the original was not functioning as designed. That would require someone to replace the part with one from supply. However if the color on top was red and from what you've said, it was, then perhaps the factory just failed to paint the back side. Whatever, it's a great mystery.

Who ever measured it before I received the truck didn't give enough slide yoke play.I had the shop shorten it and install the front and rear U joints. Two different sizes, I went with a 1955 rear axle.I wanted to keep the 6 lug setup. Now on to over hauling the rear axle. | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 120 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 120 | | | | | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 3,504 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 3,504 | Looks good, Skip.
I've read about that procedure and have been curious about it. What did you use for the clear? Did you scrub with the CLR or just wash?
