old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 898 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 898 | My 55.2 3100 3 speed trans has a 4 bolt side cover with one shift arm up and one shift arm down. 56 up has both shift arms down. So my question, is my side cover set up a one year only, or can I get a cover from and older truck that will fit (work) with my three speed?

I'm surprised '55 second used it. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | 55.2 uses it because of the configuration of the shift rods that use an intermediate pivot point, the 4 bolt covers are all the same, but the linkage movement is different so the arms face different - was changed for '56 to eliminate that intermediate bellcrank pivot

However, you will need to use the L/R shift fork from the TF side cover as the shift fork on the AD trans is narrower to accommodate the narrower slider gear. Fred
