Following the advice of some and ignoring the advice of others, I just had my truck painted at the local Earl Scheib. This was a mask and shoot; I had already stripped the body to bare metal, prepped with etching primer, the doors, jambs and interior were finished as was the engine compartment. The frame was painted and the underbody and fender wells were cleaned, painted and undercoated.

Their masking was neat and straight, overspray was minimal and the paint was smooth and even, no roughness or dirt/dust in the paint. The total job cost me $683 and I am pleased with the result.

My decision to go with them was obviously cost (I had other prices as high as $2k) the interest and attitude of the shop manager and inspection of some of their previous work.

The only unkown is the quality of the paint as they manufacture their own. It is a two part paint with hardener, so we'll see.

I hope the attached photo gives the general idea. The bed pieces were still hanging in the paint booth when this photo was taken.

The magic words are "I am pleased with the result", that is all that matters.

I know one thing, you will be out having fun driving your truck while others (like me) will be saying "Hell no I am not going to the Earl, my truck will be perfect".

There is a lot to be said about just getting the darn thing done and moving on in life. smile

This thread is sounding like the old saying...I have champagne taste on a beer budget.
So as we save our money for some fine champagne we see the other guy enjoying a cold beer. Hmmm, hrockwell, that beer looks REAL GOOD!!

Boy are guys making me feel old. Had a 61 Chevy Conv't and in 1967 got into a little trouble with the law. So I took it to Earl (FT. Wayne) and was going to get the $29.95 job but ended up getting the $49.95 instead something about the finish. Did a nice job changed the car from white to black.

Got the body ready myself and it lasted 3 yrs or until I traded for my 68 Chevelle. Remember the add well Earl Schribe will paint your car for 29.95.

Thats, a beauty,I cant wait until i am that far along. It is also a good lesson for anyone else struggling with the final paint conflict and on a tight budget I have spent more on materials on some jobs than you did haveing it done and it is a major pain in the a-- I usually will spend about 2days just trying to get my shop clean enough for final paint. It looks like you did some good bodywork or had a very clean truck and the body work is what determins 95% of the out come of a paintjob.I think the trick to haveing Earl do the final paint is do such bodywork that it looks like Earl didn't do it grin P.S looks like champagne to me.Post more pics after assembly wink Aaron
