Grinding with a 3M disk seemed to smear it around and cover any exposed body parts with airborne sludge. I tried a citrus paint remover but 1) I hate to use chemicals 2) its hard to drink a beer with a respirator on. My hood is too big to fit into my blast cabinet. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 571 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 571 | Eastwood company has a product called "Undergone" #31130Z that has worked for me. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 194 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 194 | There is no easy, quick way. I heated about an 8 inch square area at a time with a handheld propane torch. Just enough heat to soften the undercoating, then scraped off the undercoating with a putty knife. Takes some time but did a good job of removing the old undercoating. Of course, I had the cab off the frame resting a the firewall on a cab dolly, made musch easier to get to. | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 71 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2001 Posts: 71 | I had to do the same thing. The stuff from Eastwood wouldn't touch it. | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 504 Member | Member Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 504 | I had to remove a bunch of undercoating when I worked on my truck. I did not find an easy way to remove the stuff. I used different techniques on different days. Sometimes I felt like sanding, sometimes I felt like gooping it up with paint stripper. Other days I felt like grinding with a wire wheel or a fiber 3-M stripper disk. Some days I used a stiff putty with a sharpened edge.
After many days of trying everything, one day I went out to my garage and the undercoater was all gone. Good Luck, it is tough stuff..
