Mine is about 26" long. I think the one tons had bigger tanks. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 218 I have more zippers then a pair of cargo pants | | I have more zippers then a pair of cargo pants Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 218 | Look very similar to the one I took out of my one ton AD panel/bus....joe

With the 3/4 ton the truck has a longer frame so its gas tank could be longer and thus thinner yet it held the same fuel volume. it is important to realize this less depth allowed the tank to be higher above the ground. Therefore, it eliminated most tank contact with “high center” road rocks on dirt roads as with the 1/2 tons. To date, the 3/4 ton gas tanks are not being reproduced! Dimensions are: length 24", width 12 1/2", and depth 13". Source Underbed Gas Tank I do not think its a 47- early 55 1/2 ton Suburban, panel, and canopy express gas tank. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | This link is tanks for a 1/2 ton. One is my original, one is the new Repop from Jim Carter and the other is an extra I had to try fix... but the new ones came out first. It is 25 inches long, counting the Seam.
( Not 35 inches long ).
So, "Half Ton" tank I would expect...( rather than a 1 Ton Tank ).
So, should have read -
If counting the seam - 25 inches long. If counting the seam - 14 inches deep/wide. 12-5/8ths inches tall. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Those are the approximate measurements of my '54 Suburban tank. All Suburbans were 1/2-ton.
I need to also point out there were no 3/4 ton Suburbans, Canopy Express or panel trucks in the AD years. The Jim Carter quote Jorb listed is in relation to 3/4 ton trucks, not Suburbans, Canopy Express or panel trucks.

There were only 1/2 ton and 1-ton AD Burbs, Panels, etc?
Thanks!

Did you have any previous experience with welding? Or did someone else do it? I am in the same position. Debating if it something I should try to do myself. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Yamboyak, I can stick weld but have no wire welder. I leave that up to my nephew.....but heck, I know I could do it He just happen to have the nice new welder. Unless your wanting a show truck I say go for it. As long as we try hard, and do it two or three times, we can usually get a pretty doggone good job. I don't have much patience but the panel taught me some. LOL | | |
