Murph,
Welcome to 1-Ton Ownership! Yes, the bed is fairly rare, so if it's in good shape, take care of it. Bed strips, running boards and aprons are HARD to find. Actually, there are a few items on the bigger trucks that are harder to find. You can find most of what you need, but you have to be diligent. My running boards came from a pile of junk at Hershey. Lesson -- know what you need, know dimensions (and carry a tape measure) and just look everywhere. You'll find stuff. ANYBODY can restore a truck out of a catalog... :p
The easiest way to tell a 3/4 from a 1-ton (without measuring wheelbases) is to count stake pockets on the bed. A 1-ton has 8 (four per side) and a 3/4 has 6 (three per side). And, of course, the 1/2-Ton has 4. If you have 4 per side, congrats! You are my brother!!
The best part of owning a 1-ton is parking next to all the 1/2-tons at the cruise-ins -- you get to look down at them
Note to everyone -- my good-natured pokes at 1/2-tons are in JEST.
