What year did GM switch from the wide belt to the narrow one? Seems like 51-52 to me. I have a project that needs a wide belt 6V generator and all I have or can find are narrow belt generators.

Changed from 5/8" to 3/8" belt in 1953 for Chevrolet trucks.

I have a 59 GMC bigbolt that has the wide belt. Just got a new belt at NAPA. I don't know about pickups.
So possibly look for a GMC generator or pulley.
(oops, sorry, mine is 12v) but maybe you could use the pulley.

Had to be before 53, I have a 52 generator from a completely stock truck that is narrow belt.
I took a pulley off of a 12v generator from a 56 Caddy that uses a 1/2" belt. That looks like it will work for now.

I have a 1946 engine/trans assembly in storage with a short housing wide belt generator on it. Not sure about its condition but I can check it out if you're interested. PM an email address and I'll send some pictures.
