37 Chev 216 3 speed
When I start up my truck and let it run at idle speed a strange noise comes from the transmission area. The noise disappears at higher revs, and also while the driving. At first I thought it might be the emergency brake linkage rattling in time with the engine, and in fact when the brake is on the noise reduces a little.
Have also disconnected the speedo cable but no difference - is there anything else I should be checking?

If you lightly press your foot on the clutch pedal does it go away?
