Hi folks,

I started piping up my fuel lines to my 1956 235 engine. I have the C/W from Tom on a Fenton 2X1 intake with Tom's Mini HEI distributor.

I am not clear how to run the line from the distributor advance from the carbs. Do you run it to both carbs and tee off with one line or do you only run it to the one carb and if so which one (the carb towards the firewall or the carb towards the radiator)?

I bought the progressive setup also which came with the kit, so which is the primary the carb(the carb towards the firewall or the carb towards the radiator)?

Lastly am I correct on both carbs you hook up the electric choke?

I T-eed a vacuum hose from both carbs to the original/standard distributor's vacuum advance (it looked nicer than just using a line from one carb).

I hooked up the electric choke on both carbs.
My electricals were 6v and the chokes worked fine with that.
The chokes were both powered with a hot lead through an oil pressure switch.
pressure switch - could be placed on a T on any convenient oil filter line

I did not use a "progressive setup", I used Tom's very nice linkage kit. The carbs themselves are progressive two barrels.

You will get different vacuum by running from one or both carbs. Tom suggests running it from one carb first with his hei setup. a slightly different advance can be achieved by connecting to both if you want to play with it.

Ok great,

I was search and I think I saw an old post from Tim's when he was planning on installing a tee but I did not find the outcome. I like the idea of the tee. I had planned on running it another way however after seeing yours it gives me another idea.

I custom made my fuel line from the fuel pump to the carbs. I want to run the fuel line in stainless steel braided however I temporary used regular 5/16 fuel line as a dry fit to make sure everything clears. I will post a few pics when I get home from work because one thing I did not take into consideration was vapor lock from too much heat from the motor. I would appreciate you guys to look at the pics and let me know if any adjustments are needed before I install the stainless steel braided fuel line.

I think I have just linkages that Tom sent. Are there any good articles or links to help me understand the progressive set up? I have only read what Tom has sent me and on his website about his carbs.

Thanks wolffcub. I am planning on breaking in the motor real soon but blanking off one carb and installing the original carb. Then i will put the setup like I have now on it and have a carb shop in town dial it in.

When I get home from work tonight I will post a few picks of the fuel line and await the criticism. Good or bad I want it right. This weekend I want to have it plumbed since the weather is nice.

fuel line 1 1/8" above the head. Now I will build 2 braces that will keep the flex hose from sagging and they will be mounted above the 2 rocker cover bolts. My question is an inch and one eighth enough to keep enough heat away from the fuel line so I will not get vapor lock? I really do not know what I am doing just trying to keep it looking semetrical and clean. If it works ok then I will add the stainless steel braided hose and make the two braces.

I started to run the piping to the front of the both carbs Like what Tim did on his truck and tee it but I ran out of parts and I will have to finish it off on Friday.

What is the part number for the carburetor linkage you bought from Landon? Is this the set? That is not a progressive linkage. Here is an example of a progressive linkage (for a dual carb set-up).

I have never had a vapor lock problem on a 216/235/261 when fuel lines are run in/near the original locations above the head, outside the top edge of the valve cover. Your lines look like they are in/near original locations?

What parts of the engine do you have fuel-line clamps/clips attached to? Normally, the only clip touching an engine part is the one on the thermostat housing.

I had my braided lines low next to the head like that before i they got really hot. Never had vapor lock but still did not like them getting like that. I moved mine up just above the valve cover so they run horizontal right out of the carbs.

With my Fenton headers and Edelbrock intake the carb linkage would not pass upward from the old block pivot.I had to revise my system to a new style gas pedal (that i like 1000 times more and a throttle cable setup. Only think i find is with the 2 carbs the spring tension seems a bit too tight for me. Tom says you can remove one of the higher tension return springs from one of the carbs to softer the pedal.

On a side note, take the time to crack the carbs before you install them and check for debris. Even the second set i got from tom had a few bits of metal from the punched holes he makes in the top. Careful when opening them, the gasket will stick to the halves and can rip. Slowly pull apart and have something like a putty knife around to help pull the gasket away from one of the halves.

I made a bracket from some flat stock and mounted on the thermostat housing where the original one was. I added a small bracket from the head not sure what the boss was for but it was unused so wala. Where the rocker cover with the 2 bolts I will make a bracket which one will act as a washer to hold the rocker cover down and two extend out and support the fuel line.

What made me think about the heat and vapor lock was I was watching a video diy auto school and they ran the fuel line over top of the motor and the problem created it was vapor locked. His solution was to reroute the fuel line away from the heat and he also put a loop for some reason which I forgot.

I will have to check what tom sent me as far as My linkage.

I am located in Las Vegas a bit far from Tom or I would be bugging him.

My linkage looks like this one that Tim has a picture of in his truck Langdon ' s Linkage not like the Lokar one from Summit Racing
