After getting it all cleaned up I found two busted springs/ supports. Drivers side bottom, the ones that hold it off the bottom pan. Do ya think I could tack them back together with the welder? Don't want to scrap the whole bottom over a few busted springs.

1959 Shortbed stepside 1/2 ton project | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Generally spring steel (hardened or die formed) will not weld successfully with out some idea of the metallurgy and stress relief protocol. If you weld it you will find it will often crack or break again just outside the heat affected zone. You may want to post an ad in the Swap Meet to see if someone has a few to spare. | | |
